332 2025. 3. 18.
Gelling agent for solvent based formulations

Summary

A world leader in fast-moving consumer goods is looking for a gelling agent or rheology modifier for solvent based formulations, able to exhibit high viscosity at rest (no stress exerted) and low viscosity when under shear stress. Solvent based formulation described above is mainly ether glycol.

Stage of Development

TRL 8 -Available for demonstration

Description

.

Technical Specification or Expertise Sought

Technical requirements

  • Viscosity under shear stress: ~2000 – 4000 cP @ shear stress 100s-1 & temperature 20°C
  • Viscosity in idle condition: @ 0.01s-1 & 20°C at least 20x more than the one @ 100s-1
  • Fast return to idle condition viscosity after shear stress is removed (thixotropic recovery) <5’
  • Material particle size to be below 1um

Chemical compatibility

  • Ability to form a gel in phenoxy ethanol or phenoxy propanol
  • No increase of viscosity in water
  • No agents for water-based solutions
