Digital solutions for agricultural activities

Summary

A Korean SME runs its agricultural big data analysis applications and sensors business  in Korea, which has been providing app services, agricultural sensors, and data collection devices to facility farmers who want precise analysis. The company wishes to cooperate with agricultural-related institutions or companies (agricultural sensors, agricultural hardware, controllers, agricultural consulting, etc.) to provide services to overseas farmers. The company is open to various partnership types.

Advantages and Innovations

Agricultural experts participate in their systems, enabling real-time agricultural consulting regardless of location and time. It reduces the time that used to take 33 hours to analyse 100 farms per day to just one minute, and one consultant can manage numerous farms in real-time so that required labor could be decreased. Farmers actually need facility investment (at least 600 million won based on 3400㎡) to increase their yields, but when using their analysis services, they can improve their output to minimum 100 dollars per month.

The system processes more than 100,000 pieces of data on the farm's internal environment in real-time to determine the current environmental condition and inform the appropriate time to ventilate and shade.

As a result of a demonstration, farms applying the system have increased production by more than 20%. It showed an improvement in output of 43 tons from 35 tons before application. In addition, the time to maintain an environment suitable for increasing production has more than doubled.

In addition to their own sensors, the firm would like to provide services by linking sensor information with other businesses. Furthermore, they are developing information on predicting internal and external farms and forecasting information on growth conditions and yields for the next 24 hours by generating artificial intelligence-based deep learning prediction information.

Description

The Korean SME was established in 2019 and visited greenhouse farms in Korea for about three years before and after its establishment to listen to farmers' difficulties and study ways to help improve yields. The company identified the fact that it was not easy for small farmers to invest a large amount of money in improving facilities, yet everyone wished to increase the yield. Therefore, the company studied how to increase yields without investment, and as a result, they proceeded with a data-based agriculture business. The technologies that constitute the agricultural services are as follows.

1) Algorithm Technology customized by each farm

- Artificial intelligence-based analysis and prediction information are provided for each farm.

- Information such as the first recommended ventilation time, the first watering time, the availability of real-time ventilation, photosynthesis judgment indicators, and the analysis of the transpiration environment are provided.

2) AI-based growth and harvesting change prediction technology

- Through deep learning technology, environmental data alone can predict the growth (leaf size, stem size, etc.) of crops next week and determine whether the current farming environment is appropriate by predicting the fruit size next week.

3) Real-time abnormal signs detection system

- It is a collective knowledge-based anomaly detection technology in which agricultural consultants participate and apply their analytical know-how to automation systems.

- It is a real-time service that informs customized measures for each farm if abnormal signs are found in collected data.

Through these technologies, the company is providing several types of agricultural services.

1) Mobile App for Farmers:

Information (such as the first recommended ventilation time) to improve the growth of crops, the first watering time, whether real-time ventilation is possible, photosynthesis judgment indicators, and transpiration environment analysis can be checked through the app.

2) Control systems for agricultural institutions/organizations:

Currently, Korean local governments have started the B2G project, which can manage farmers by agricultural subsidies. It is a system where you can see the current status of farms in the jurisdiction at a glance. With the services above, the firm would also like to offer devices/sensors which is needed to operate these systems.

3) Farmhouse Environmental Sensors:

It measures temperature, humidity, CO2 level in real-time, providing dew point, temperature, and HD(Humidity Deficit) through the LCD screen and shows information analysed through the app.

4) Farmhouse Badge Sensors:

Land temperature, ground humidity, and EC data are measured every minute to show the analysed information through the app.

5) Communication Devices:

Communication devices for sensors installed on farms.

The Korean firm is willing to cooperate with agricultural-related institutions or companies/manufacturers/distributors (agricultural sensors, agricultural hardware, controllers, agricultural consulting, etc.) The company wishes to build testbeds and services for Palm Cloud platforms through cooperation.

The company is also looking forward to partnerships with companies/manufacturers in any industries that are willing to apply and utilize this technology to their goods/technologies.
